Healthcare

Summary:

There are more and more people waiting to be treated in NHS hospitals and it will take a decade to clear the waiting list, in part because of a lack of staff. So much so that the British health-care system looks like how it was before WWII.

Indeed, many patients prefer to use private healthcare so as not to wait for treatment. Besides, health is now often taken care of by communities and volunteers. Moreover, people take more care of their health to avoid needing the NHS. Finally, more people cannot get treatment either because they cannot find a specialist, or because they cannot afford it.

Summary:

The prime minister wants to implement a 10 year reform of the NHS because, after years of neglect and with ageing patients, public health-care is in dire straits.

Prevention through diet and a healthy life style will be the main aspect of the reform, despite possible opposition. But the NHS workforce might also be a challenge for the productivity reforms.

In any case, the government is willing to stop funding the NHS until it is reformed.
